Obviously its comfort that drive a person to own a car, besides that I can only think of, is status...perhaps the person wants others to see him as being successful in life...thus the consequences of having to cough up more money to maintain that lifestyle and when cost increases they start blaming others for it but never look into themselve whether they have made contingency measures to meet head on higher cost of living that will keep increasing every single year..

i'm surprised that the 1st world status is mention here..are we prepared to pay equivalent to what the 1st world countries are paying...you want higher income taxes? that's crazy man..i have been paying income taxes every single year ever since i started working...

well, i have my fair share of travelling to other countries enough to say that the public transportation here is better..those people who never travel to other countries would just take it for granted on what other people are commenting and never took it to make a fair comparison..or perhaps car drivers here have lost touched with the ground to know what actually is happening to the public transport system...if i remember correctly nowadays LTA has its own gallery its open to everyone to view..you guys could check it for yourselves...even my small nephews knows more about them and than me tsk..tsk..

well, to say that LTA has screwed up is up to ur opinion, at the end of the day everyone makes their own judgement...

comparing our transport system with India very funny though...i don't understand why India..why not Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, China, Dubai...u guys don't know? research more perhaps...i think i envy is that those countries could afford to have high speed trains >200km/hr....in singapore, at most 80-90km/hr between stations..sigh

To encourage ppl to take public transport.......make public transport free.    Singaporean will rush anything that is free.    Once the ministers cut their pays and bonuses, we have enuf money to maintain the public transport.  If you really need to drive, pay erp. The $$$ get from ERP revenues will goes to maintain public transport.   I'm sure the road will be empty and clearer.
