Wink Maybe the supervisors and those on top are to be blamed. The cleaners just go round  with a broom, dragging the broom along as he walks. Sometimes with their eyes not on the floor, but looking elsewhere. How to locate shit ?

With a mere $300 pay, remit $150 to their family overseas, he has only $5 a day. Whereas local supervisors are paid thousands of dollars and seldom seen them making their rounds checking.

In fact, one cleaner should be station in each block, full time , on call , 365 days a year. How much does it cost to do it ? $3,600 yearly.

Works out to be $ 9 and 86 cents a day.  smoking cost less than a packet of cigarettes. cheers or 2 bottles of " tiger "

Right or wrong ?
And companies are saying that they take foreigners due to lower cost which I say is totally untrue. I know a friend who is a cleaner in Tampines where he cleans 3 blocks daily. He is being paid around $300/block/mth which comes to $10/day/block which is totally the same as what a foreigner is paid.

Having lived in flats all my life, I remember during the 80s & 90s, locals do the cleaning of blocks and there were not much complaints as to what we have now. That time they had more to do as there is no central rubbish chute. Each unit have their own chute so daily they have to clear the rubbish bins. And the lift does not stop on every floor so imagine residents throwing bulky items and they have to climb up the stairs to clear those items.

Something should be done to the current standard of cleaners. And if the pay is equivalent to paying a local, might as well pay our locals as they need the income more being citizens.

Alternatively, in each block of flats, there may be some retired / senior citizens living around.

Town council should explore, trained and  engaged them to work as cleaners. Calling them cleaners maybe does'nt sound so glamorous. Why not use the word " house-keepers ".   smile same lah, bus-captains V bus-drivers.

This way, the authority can cut down un-employment. At the same time keeping the older citizens gainfully engaged.

Sometimes things are so simple but the authorities make it look so difficult. People are getting older, correct, but at 60 or older, most are still physically fit. By having nothing to do, walking, cycling round the estate, drinking " Tiger Beer ", they may get old and become useless.

No need to have all sorts of professional bodies set up to look after their affairs. Just train them, give them a job, a monthly salary, they will be as active as the younger ones. Without money in their pockets, can they play " majong " to keep mind active  Huh? Huh? Do they have the time and interest to go line dancing in the CC's to keep fit Huh? Huh? Can they socialise in the RC's, CC's with an empty stomach  Huh? Huh?

Simple problems need simple mind to solve. No need with " head broken university degrees "
