Union discount vouchers ......needy residents to get them too

It was announced that although the discount vouchers are targetted at NTUC union members, community leaders can use money from the COMCARE fund to buy the discount vouchers for their needy residents.

More people seeking home-help services.

Home-help services are usually provided by voluntary welfare organisations ( VWOS ) .They give frail or disabled folk cooked meals; clean; do their homes; and escort those who lives alone, are disabled or have no regular caregiver to medical appointments. The needy can make used of subsidies provided by the government and VWOS ,and those with no income can even get them free.

A Primary Care Partnership Scheme, or PCPS, card entitles its holder to consultations by a GP at Polyclinic rates.

To qualify for the card, you must be a Singapore Citizen at least 65 years old, and have a per capital household income of $700/- or less. Those younger than 65 but who are disable may also apply for the card if they are citizens from homes or having a similar income of $700 or less.

Apply at the Community Development Council or Community Club. Medical consultation $4/- medication for each type of medicine for a week cost 70 cents.
