Basically there's several type of cctv camera out there in the market.  First narrow your view on

1. IP Camera - for remote viewing only (recording require?) this has the least hazard in installation but will be compromised on the recording and rather complex in setting up.  Cheaper type are just fixed focal lens where slightly more expensive are those with Pan Tilt or even audio transimission and recording.  It really depends on your budget.

2. Conventional DVR Digital Video Recorder (4 CH) + Dome Camera - Require installation around the house but can easily achieve 24hrs full frame recording with up to 4 cameras.

I'm a system integrator for surveillance and communication, and do provide the above services.  Feel free to drop me a mail at markloo@singnet.com.sg or SMS at 98430030 to find out a more appropriate solution to suit your budget.

I've 2 sets of IP cameras at home, recording is done selectively.
I'll not view the recordings unless something warrents me to since it takes a long time to screen through everything.
Setting up the IP cameras are very easy, just need to complete the default setups on the camera and installing the software if you wish to do recording. If not you're ready to go. To view over the Internet, just need to enable port forwarding on the internal IP address and the port number for the camera.

You can access your camera direct from your web brower by typing http://<external IP address>:<port number>. You can get your external IP address from the router's status page. For starhub Maxonline, it begins with 5x.xxx.xxx.xxx.
