well i'm helping a friend with her daughter
hope you people can give suggestions

the daughter is coming to 3 years
about the same age with mine
the problem is
the daughter refuse to speak
not like mine very very talkative and irritating sometime hehe

whenever the daughter need something
she will tap on someone shoulder and point towards what she wants
NO she is not mute, just that it refuse to open her mouth

any suggestion?

Adult : you want this sweet.
Girl : Nod her head.
Adult : Give her the sweet.
Girl : Case closed without opening her month.

Suggest, ask her and point to what she dun want, i.e give her toys when she point to sweet. slowwly she will try to make some noise to push her point.

My cousin son have this case too. Cause he got more them enough people to give him the attention.
But he has break the sound, now...very noisy...

i wanna suggest to my friend speech therapy
but scare offend him

  wow that is challenging.  how about only giving her what she wants only after she say it. if she doesnt , then ignore her. its to give her the message that she only deserve the attention for the appropriate behaviour..
and give her a double reward when she makes the effort.
maybe its got to do with her self confidence.. so really need alot of positive reinforcement.
