More changes have been planned for MediShield, the national insurance scheme. The Health Ministry plans to increase the daily claims limits as well as the premiums to be paid.

Those aged 60 years and below - the increase in premiums will be below $60 per year

Those between 61 and 80, the premium increase will not exceed $120 per year. They make up 16 percent of all policyholders.

Those who are 81 and above, the premium will be $480 per year. The authorities claimed there are only about 5,000

Something very strange, those already 81 were old, fragile, sick, wheel-chair bound, in nursing homes, bed-ridden ........how do you expect them to pay such a high premium increase ?

Why add salt to wounds and make them suffer more ? The Govt., the MPS walking around during weekends seems a caring lot. Does this happen only on TV screens ?Recently just saw our SM carrying an Indian baby, smiling so happily.

Insurance companies are making so much out of the young people. Why not use part of the profits from the young to pay for the old and dying ? Shocked Shocked

Agree with the point that chances is they will claim more. And also because these groups are also smaller, you gotta fork out more per person too.

As we can see on TV especially on Tuesday 10.30 PM. after the mandarin news. Most of these elderly are livng in one room rented flats. Most don't earn a living and are also depending on social welfare assistance.

Some who are mobile, roam the streets and backlanes collecting  cardboards, cans and newspaper for sale. On a good day, they manage to earn about $2 to $3 . Really cannot understand how are they going to pay so much on medishield.

My feeling is, the Govt. should provide free medical services for all of them. One of these days, if we don't plan carefully for retirement, we may end up to be one of them. Hopefully not.  Tongue
