NIMBY stands for " not in my backyard " meaning don't built a nursing home, rehabilitation centre, day-care centre or anything to do with old man's facility next to my flat, near to my flat, or under my flat.
it seems those who are against it will forever remain young or won't grow old.
All these while, most of the days, on the press, on tv, the authorities had been emphasizing that in 20 year's time, one million Singaporeans will be 65 and over. Base on 1 percent whose children don't bother about them, 10,000 destitutes need to be housed.
This year alone saw 4 objection cases :-
1. In February Toh Yi Drive residents objected to the building of studio apartments in their neighbourhood. RESULT : HDB says construction to go ahead.
2. In February again : Woodlands street 83 objected to the building of an eldercare centre at their void deck. RESULT : HDB says construction will go ahead.
3. In May : Bishan street 13 , residents objected to the building of a 260 bed nursing home. MOH is still listening to them. Singaporeans should know what will be the outcome.
4. In May again : Jalan Batu residents objected to a rehabilitation centre at the void decks of Block 10 and 11. Again MOH is listening.
All the above cases probably prompted HDB to come out with alternatives. HOW ?
Building studio apartments, in selective Blocks in Punggol, some with good waterway views.
Finally, it prompted an announcement on TV. In future a nursing home will be constructed in each constituency in Singapore.
