Background of MaitriPals
Since its inception in June 2005, the MaitriPals is the only Buddhist volunteer group that provides befriending and spiritual support for HIV/ Aids patients at the Patient Care Center (PCC) located at the Tan Tock Seng- Communicable Disease Center (CDC). The MaitriPals truly believe in overcoming the realism of fear, differences and stigma while striving in the giving of unconditional loving-kindness and compassion with open mind and selflessness.
Brief background of the Patient Care Centre
The Patient Care Centre at CDC, was set up in 1997 to cater to the needs of the rising number of HIV/Aids patients. It is the only centre in Singapore that provides work and day care for patients with HIV/Aids. The Centre runs a number of programmes for patients, most of whom are not able to find employment due to their health or to the stigma and discrimination associated with their illness. All our programmes are funded by public donations to the Tan Tock Seng Community Charity Fund.
