Ah...the durians...well..according to my fren's father( they own a durian plantation), thai durians are harvested b4 they ripens. Thais love to eat them semi raw. Maybe cook rice or make kuey. Anyway..since there is a huge demand..they'll cut it down, dip it in insecticides and then keep the durian in a 'smoke' room. That's where the durians are let to season. Have any1 of you notice that thai durians don't come with a stalk like the rest?
Tip 1
Don't ever smell a thai durian. It's like breathing in insecticide. Same goes for all durians.
Tip 2
If you still must die-die smell a durian, do you know which part to start with? The stalk area.
Tip 3
Notice an experienced seller don't smell the durians? They simply tap it. That's the right way. Experiment with a few durians. Buy them fresh, not opened. Tap the thorns with a knife. Hear the hollow sound it produced. Hollow sound, 'bao jiak'.A1 Shake a bit. If you can feel the flesh 'rolling', A**.
Tip 4
Go for odd shaped or very sharp thorns.
