We mounted table and shelf (from Ikea) on the wall adjacent to the window, with a swivel chair (from Ikea) and proper study lamp in kid's rm for my eldest, due to space contraint - already got 3 beds in the rm - thought she should study in her rm to minimse distractions. A part of the pull out bed is under the table and the chair is pushed to a corner during bed time. However, she is such an untidy person and her table is always cluttered with things. When number 2 started P1, we wanted to do the same on the opposite wall but he chose to do his work on the dining table. That means he must do his work before or after meal times and must clear his work for the day - no clutter at dining table. If he can't finish his work yet, I have another space for him to put the work aside. Once work is completed, I'll check and then it goes into the school bag immediately. It works fine for him. Now eldest also do work on the dining table. But hardly let me check.

We wanted to get that at first but I we chose 2 pieces of wood instead, 1 as table top and another narrower one above it as a shelf. We placed 2 vertical metals on the side to hold the wood and the height can be adjusted to suit her. If you need to visualise it, will get hubby to take photo and post it here when he's back from business trip.
