Why not donate dollar for dollar instead of GST on every dollar?

We're trying our best to help those victims of earthquake aren't we? We're not buying any goods or services!

Let's hear everybody's views?

Why donations still need to be taxed?

I donated thru internet banking and some cans placed at shopping centres, not sure whether it incurred GST.

some of this so called charity event is organised by professional event organiser.
they make a profit out of it.
in the case of phone donation. there is a teleoperator, not singtel, that co-ordinates it hence there is where GST kicks in.

Well, the organizers are using the service of Singtel which they need to pay. Singtel is not doing charity, the organizers are.

Donations are not taxed, they taxed the phonecalls
