In a dialogue session with over 900 senior managers, government officials and union bosses, MM said, " there should be no retirement age for workers "

He suggested that you should work as long as you can to remain happy and healthy.

If you keep on doing what you are doing now, chances you will stay interested and engage in life.

If you retire and started to read books, you're on the way down.

Smiley In our old estates in Red Hill, Queenstown, Bedok, Geylang East, many 60+ retirees just sit around, talk, drink, at coffee stalls, at void decks idling their time away. At times engaged in arguments, friends become enemies.

When CPF $$$ cant be withdrawn easily, minimum sum keep going up, who dares to retire.
Basically just work and work until die.

From past experiences, whenever MM talked about a certain subject / topic, soon Ministers / labour unions bosses will definately do a follow-up. This topic will then be in the mind of most employers. The Public Service should be the first to get the ball rolling, next the MNC's and then the SME's.

There are many psychological barriers to overcome by the retiree.

1. When an employee reach retirement age and is willing to stay on, he should be prepared to get a pay-cut.

2. Willing to report to a young executive who may be better educated but without much experience.

3. Employers may have a century old mindset that retirees are slow, inefficiently and unproductive.
