Did anyone witness the accident across Punggol Plaza that occured just now? I was having dinner at punggol plaza and my brother called to say he was on the bus along that stretch of road and he saw one small little girl lying face down near a car with alot of ppl crying.

After dinner i drove past, then ambulance and police was there, saw a white cloth cover over the small girl already.. so sad..

i did not witness the accident, but was told by an onlooker that she was with her grandpa.when i went there,i also saw the white plastic sheet and the grandpa wailing on the ground.Sigh,It's really sad..

The traffic police sure took a long time to come.when i left, they were not here yet and the paramedics had to direct traffic.the cars are always speeding along that road..it's not the first accident along that stretch liao.somemore those bushes surely block both the driver and pedestrian's vision.

Drove pass (think just minutes after the accident). Saw the baby girl lying still on the ground, and the man struggling to get up. Some people were rushing in to help the man.

Very sad.  I did hear about this yesterday evening and just couldn't able to feel normal for a long time after that.  I can see this got listed in channelnewsasia.  Anybody know how this happened?  Is it due to the pedestrian taking the shortcut to the otherside?

It's indeed very sad to witness such an accident. As such i have written to the Pasir Ris Punggol town council and urge them to take some actions e.g. setting up a barrier/fence across both sides of the road to prevent such accident from happening again.

Seriously i don't think we need another incident before something can be done about it.

anyone who may know of an even direct way to feedback this concern to the relevant authority pls feel free to do so by taking this thread or message forward.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir / Madam,

This is in response to a fatal accident involving a 5yr girl on 1st Dec 09' at 8:35pm along edgefield plains opp 126A. I would like to urge the authorities to look into this matter seriously as this fatal accident resulted in an innocent life lost and grief for the family.

Basically, the open area (without fence) across both sides of the roads has always been a temptation for most, young & old, to cross over to get to either sides of the road. Without a physical barrier, Folks just like to take the easier & faster way to get across. I have seen young children dashing across and vehicles perpetually slowing down suddenly for pedestrain to 'jay crossing'. Frankly speaking though there is an overhead bridge approx 20-30m away from busstop, nothing beats just walking across for convienient sake. I don't understand why there are even tiles lay down on the central divider that even entice people to walk across though they are suppose to use the overhead LRT bridge. Overshadowing trees that reduce the visibility of these pedestrain crossing at night is another big problem.

Since Yr 06, there had been a total of 5 accidents that happened across this area & punggol plaza.
4 Nov 06: Accident; pedestrian hit
15 Sep 07: MPV overturn after collision
22 Mar 08: punggol's car hit by car filtering out from Punggol Plaza
14 Mar 09: Car hit by Punggol Plaza bus turning out from Punggol Plaza
1 Dec 09: 5-year-old girl killed in car accident at Punggol

It is extremely unsafe and till a physical barrier is setup to deter people from walking/dashing across, many will continue to take chance and assume that such accident will not happen to them.

As a resident, i really hope that the lost of this little girl's life will help to put up a strong justification for the authority to erect a barrier across the roads there. I do not wish to see this fatal accident to become part of national's statistic.

One fatal accident that claimed an innocent live is just too many. I seek your consideration in this matter to do something about it. If the area across Primemart supermarket & kopitiam can have physical barrier across both sides of the road, i do not see the reason why a high traffic & conjested area esp along PG plaza can't have similar deterent setup.

sincerely

My condolences to the family

too bad we are just peasants and our voice are not loud enough to be taken seriously. what is LTA doing? makan gaji buta?

cant they see that you should erect a barricade or fence below the track? or is it they need to wait until some powerful people voice out? if not couldn't care less?

cause i really really love to here the reason for not erecting it by whichever responsible authorities. wait
better still dont tell us the reason. tell it to the families of the 5 year old that got killed.

Last nite there was another accident at the T-junction of Punggol Field and Punggol East, near the temple.
This accident happened just an hour after the 5 year-old girl was killed.
The distance between this 2 accidents is only about 200m apart.
Saw a red taxi stopped at the junction perdestrian crossing with a woman in her 40s lying on the road face up in front of taxi, motionless, seems dead.
Another woman behind the taxi crying or moaning.
Looks like the 2 women were crossing the road and one was hit.
I think the taxi driver was stunned and helpless and squating down near the motionless woman.
Police and ambulance was not there yet.

Anyone heard or saw that too?

Very sad day.

I saw the ambulance and the situation there yesterday, sad to say that up till today/tonight there's still people crossing at the same place- i dont knw what to say.
I dun think that i will blame the town council or the authorities. Action and decision made by a person bad or good is their responsibilities.
There is a traffic light just a few meters away for pedestrians, there is even the LRT lifts and bridge for pedestrians to crossover. There's no reason for all the ppl to cross that road. The roads are meant for vehicles.
Frankly, i have boys age 5 and 3 yrs, they are definitely active and at times,  I agree its hard to control them so we need to take precaution and educate our child.
I remembered during my primary school years... we are educate about Road Safety @ Road safety park in East coast. Jay walking is wrong.
Authorities, tried their best to educate us but do we try to change and take this positively? A few of my colleague got a $20 fine for jaywalking opp The Concourse @ beach road, instead of taking this as a lesson they choose write in and voice their unhappiness. Who can we blame? Nobody but ourselves ultimately. I am not defending anybdy but rather angry and frustrated when i saw a couple carrying an infant crossing at the same place just now!!

I totally agree with you. We should all be responsible for our own safety. I always see a lot of people dashing across the road and sometimes the  vehicles have to ebrake to avoid hitting them.I feel angry and wonder why do they put themselves at such risks esp those with toddlers n kids..both the pedestrian and drivers have to practice road safety.

I also believe that each and every of us have to do our part to live happily in any parts of the world.
According, to my knowledge, those fencing are not close fully for a reason and emergency cases (police casses/fire escape/ fire engines) and those bushes are originaly covered fully in that area to refrain people to crossover. Those space, that u see now is a man made space created by hundreds of jay walkers which results a big space seems like a space made open for crossing which is obviously not made by authorities.
Early this year I saw those town council worker planting a few plants to cover up the area again and in May some work is done to cover the area again for Racial Harmony street parade and not long after that the space is created again.
Why? Why? Why cant we accept the fact and learn not to be egoistic, ignorant! We are at times so proud of ourself attain position and education and often forgets that we are just humans, nobody is superior, strong, rich or smart and most of all we are all going to the same cycle of life... To be born, to live and die...

Dear esunny...please write a letter to GOD also, why is childbirth so painful, why is there disasters around the world, why is human made to be smart to invent cars, why are we made to live then die....

Can we blame Obama or The US president for the Economy downturn? can we blame the government for a reactions and behavours of the other Singaporeans?

What if vice versa happen, the LRT was on Fire, there is no space for Fire Engine access for saving/ rescue procedure (refering to the accident area)? Will you write a letter to them on this...

Can Starhub and Singtel make each and every of us happy individually while we are all made differently with different opinions? Can all Nations and countries satisfy us individually? Difinitely not and thats why "Rules. Terms. Conditions" are created non other by Humans themselves

I have kept this for so long and now... I think its time for me to give my opinion. I really respect and appreciate that somebody have invented Forum pages in the net and newspaper, I agree that this is good for us to post some answers and questions but sad to say Forums that are made and complains that are posted are no longer meant for these purpose which also includes long Qs for bank hotlines or companies, what I would like to say is that its just mainly for self individual interest which are selfish.

Have our grandfathers thought us wrongly? What did they miss? Have we forgotten to blame ourselves...Have we forget to be honest? "Don't work hard but work smart"... why are we always cheating? are all waivers that we requested from Telcos, banks and companies are 100% genuine or just a 100% ignorant from users

I do understand that its hard to make a living but hardship is experienced everywhere even a few centuries back eg Jesus or whoever u have read in the book of history.

There is the good, bad and ugly which is the fact of life and I believe that some of us are appointed or born to be leaders, the rich and the bad ones, there is nobody to point fingers at and there is nobody to be blame but ourself and CHANGES starts from ourself.. not others

So before we made comments or blame others... I think we should always look back and reflect ourself.... We are actually the Man in The Mirror... Grin

my intention is not to fingerpoint at anybody. I understand what you are driving at, unfortunately not everyone is as rational as you when options are put in front of them at that instant.

It's not my intention either to get into emotional discussion. I want to hear what can be done with the suggestions and views from the community/authority. It's meant to be a constructive thread for those who think what ought or can possibly be done/explore such that this risk can be mitigated and people can commute within a safer boundary.
