That's precisely the issue. Are we really providing public transport? I wouldn't be concern if the transport are manned by the authority. But in reality SBST is a private company answerable to shareholders. Until this conflict is resolved, every loss made by the private company will be borne by the commuters.

loss made by private company will be borne by the shareholders, not commuters who are the customers.

commuters MUST demand for better service, and lower price through improvement in productivity. don't ever dream that you can allow SBS Transit to keep a station closed, and pass the benefits to you.

of course the shareholders will lost the money....this will lead SBST to increase the fare and in the end the commuters pays more...

well, we can demand more better service but how do you quantitatively gauge the level of service provided...if the public service are handed back to the authority they have to provide the best service level under PS21(public service 21) code...this would be better as they are answerable to us...private companies are not answerable to us...we pay..yes..but they can tell us the option of...you want to use..you pay...or else go fly kite...i'm not naive enough to expect benefits from SBST..but if they give more to the community then my perception towards them would change..for a start...give elderly people better fare structure...

The shareholder will never lose money. Its a matter of more or less only.
The "so call" public transport operator annual profit increase every year. When the fuel price go up, they also go up. But when the fuel price went down, we never see the fare go down.
Public transport should be a heavily subsidize system by the garment to the people and not a blood sucking system. It was privatise so that they can use this as an excuse that they need to take care of the shareholder 'profit'. In the first place it shouldn't be call public transport.
With the fare keep increasing and never comes down, we can't blame the people for not taking the 'costly' MRT especially NE line.
Do you think Punggol Station got 6000 people use the station? I doubt so.
