Singapore admitted close to 700,000 foreign workers. Of the 700,000 workers, we really don't know how many of them are really working. Some may have no jobs walking around town. Others may have no food and housing.
Recent TV interviews on Bangladeshi workers claimed hundredths are without jobs, some without pay and are living only with bread soak with water. WHY IS THIS SO ? WHAT ARE OUR IMMIGRATION AND PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF LABOUR DOING ?
It was found out that a local shipyard needed welders. Bangladeshi workers were sent to the shipyard to take a test on welding skills. FAILURE RATE WAS HIGH. Those who passed the test were employed, failures rejected or have to come back, re-train and re-test. WHY IS THIS SO ?
1. Why can't the ministry set up agencies in Bangladesh to grade them before allowing them to come here ?
2. Why allow private companies to recruit, make tons of money, bringing in workers without the necessary skills for the job ?
Why are the authorities not taking action on the agencies and worried only on how to house those Bangladeshi workers, inconveniencing Singaporeans ?
