Bus & train fares, transfer rebates to increase from Oct 1
By Channelnewsasia.com | Posted: 12 September 2008 1039 hrs

SINGAPORE: Most bus and train journeys will see a change in fares from October 1 with an overall net fare adjustment of 0.7 per cent, according to a statement by the Public Transport Council on Friday.

Adult EZ-Link fares on buses and trains and the senior citizen concession EZ-Link fare will see a flat increase of four cents per ride.

However, the rise in fare prices can be offset when commuters do a transfer.

The transfer rebate for adult EZ-Link fares is to increase 15 cents from the current 25 cents to 40 cents.

Hence, fares for adult or senior citizen concession journeys will see either an increase of four cents for a direct journey with no transfer, or a reduction of seven cents for a journey with one transfer.

Cash fares for adult bus and train rides, which have not been adjusted since 2005, will see an increase of 10 cents.

Child/student concession fares and prices of student/NS-man monthly concession passes remain unchanged.

Singaporeans are by nature noisy and agitated when first heard of any new price increases or unfavourable policy changes announced by the authorities. After a few months, after making some noise, everybody is still happily paying all the extras. oops oops and conveniently forgetting  the whole episode.

Bus and train fares are going to increase. What did the operators said ? They said, " oh ...by increasing bus and train fares, some passengers will pay a few cents more, OTHERS ARE IN FACT PAYING LESS. What a childish explaination.  Shocked True or not ?? angry

SP Services customers to see average increase of 21.89% increase in power bill
By Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 29 September 2008 1035 hrs

SINGAPORE: Higher oil prices have pushed up electricity prices for this quarter up by about a fifth.

SP Services said on Monday households will see an average increase of 21.46 per cent in electricity bills, when average electricity tariffs go up by 5.38 cents per kilowatt-hour.

On average, all SP Services customers will face a 21.89 per cent increase.

For the period October 1 to December 31, tariffs have been pegged to a higher "forward fuel oil price" of S$155.14 per barrel.

This price is 38.06 per cent higher than the S$112.35 per barrel in this current quarter.

The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and adjusted in line with fluctuations in the cost of electricity, and approved by the Energy Market Authority.

At a news conference on Monday, the Authority's chief executive Khoo Chin Hean said that the increase is the highest so far this year.
