MINNEAPOLIS: An interstate bridge, jammed with rush-hour traffic, suddenly broke into huge sections and collapsed into the Mississippi river, pitching dozens of cars 60 feet (18 meters) into the water and killing at least seven people.  Shocked

Having read of this mishap, we  hope our Sheares Bridge built and open in year 1982 , spanning 1.8 km. and the tallest, at 20 metre built over reclaimed land is still solid and structurally sound. Today it is about 25 years old. Tongue

Adding to the load, tensile stress or whatever, each year, ( suppose to be an annual event ) more than 65,000 people pound the Benjamin Sheares Bridge for a 6/12/21 km marathon.

Any pungollians / Singaporean had any idea how the maintenance is carried out for the bridge ?Care to share ……

Not forgetting, from the initial 3-lanes per direction to now 5 lanes.
Wonder if the bridge can withstand the loading during peak hours with heavy vehicles and cars spread over all 5 lanes on start-stop conditions.

While travelling on the bridge opp vivocity, can feel it shaking whenever a heavy vehicle zoom pass.
