haha... Fiji, the next thing is i'll be bombed by queries about XYZ supermarket, mama shops etc liao... the rule for NTUC is simple: match our price but NOT lower.
the last time i worked, cold storage prices are above NTUC. they were growing, not so much of a bargaining power. now they have many outlets, Shop n save, jason's and 7 eleven are under the same parent company too. thus i think now they would've higher bargaining power. you rarely see lower prices than NTUCs still. like mamy poko diapers, selling $16.70 at NTUC, normal price. cold storage, after special promotion and discount sells at $16.90!!! 20 cents more....
but cold storage is "smart". what they do is something call "bonus points", gift redemption. that "indirectly" lowers the nominal price of goods. if you observe closely, cold storage's bonus stickers & gift redemption period rarely clash with NTUC's bonus gift redemption period. and also, they have their house brand "first choice". house brands are cheaper and of coz, own brand, own pricing. lastly, cold storage sells more variety of deli food like sausages, hams, cheeses than NTUC. so always the survival rule "if you can't beat them, be different!".
