Punggol North residents had been talking about the waterway projects for more than a year. Finally by beginning of March 2009, it was expected work will begin. This is what the HDB had promised and accordinly, the first part of the project costing $144.6 million had been awarded to a civil engineering contractor.
The entire waterway stretching 4.2 km long is expected to be completed end 2010. Infrastructures consisting freshwater lakes, homes both public and private will run along the waterways with water-sports, jogging tracks, eateries within garden and parks.
The narrowest width is about 10 metres, widest 80 metres and depth 4 metres, a superb freshwater lake for water activities.
When fully developed by year end 2011, 40,000 flats will be built along the waterways for Punggol North residents to enjoy waterfront housing.
