The Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) is paid to older low-wage workers ( 35 years old and above ) to encourage them to stay employed. Worked at least 3 months in any 6 months period. If we contribute to CPF , we don't have to do anything, the CPF will do all the job to see if we qualify.
Steps to be taken when we are not contributing to CPF and we wish to benefit from WIS.
1. Go to any CPF Service Centres or Singapore Post to register.
2. Contribute to medisave.
Recently, we saw in the papers about 100,000 casual or self-employed workers who are not in the scheme. There are also reports that, workers who reported to the CPF Board are told to top up their medisave to get the Workfare Income Supplement scheme.
Sometimes we wonder whether the service counter staff are fully trained to deal with enquiries. OR counter staff from different Boards are telling a different story making older and uneducated low wage workers blur, so much so they backed out.
Pungollians may be young, but we may have parents who may be working part-time, doing their own part-time business who may need the correct info. The authorities are paying older workers ( either some cash , topping up our medisave, or into our CPF accounts ). Lets assemble proper informations here , put into perspective, hopefully to benefit our older Pungollian workers.
