Prayer urns stolen as 7th lunar month begins

SINGAPORE : With the start of the 7th month on the Lunar calendar, it is customary for many Singaporeans to make offerings to family members who have passed away.
So it came as a rude shock for some to find their prayer urns missing.

One vendor at Telok Blangah Rise market found four of his urns stolen on Monday while his neighbour found three of his urns missing.

25 urns at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 were also reported stolen on Monday.

One owner believes the urns were taken for their monetary value.

With the price of scrap bronze having doubled from a year ago, a recycling company says the urns can fetch between $10 and $20 each.
