We are thinking to sign up a package to go Japan or plan our own fly and drive trip. We are looking at Tokyo and Hokkiado. Any advice?

I lived in Tokyo for a couple of months.

Its a very expensive city
if are not familiar with  moving around Tokyo streets.

Normally I eat out at those side street small food
shops - usually one man operated type of 'hawker'.  Prices are ok.

Suburban Tokyo is nice and picturous.

However, I wont recommend driving inside
main part of Tokyo.  Parking charges can be very exorbitant.
