In this time and date, outer appearance seems to have taken over inner beauty. Everyone is so conscious of the way they look and it seems to be more important than what lies inside a person. Nonetheless, despite this issue of conforming to social standards, there is still a handful that precedes such mentality.
This documentary builds upon the account of a health and fitness program in local schools also known as the Trim and Fit (TAF) club and the people who have been through it. The TAF Club has been established for 15 years and has proved its effectiveness through the drop in percentage of overweight students over the years. It has however undermined the negative psychological and emotional well-being of its members in the process. This has resulted in TAF Club members being picked on and criticized for being chosen to be in the program. TAF Club has allowed stereotypes to be created upon its’ members.
Through this video, we aim to create awareness among the viewers that there is more than meets the eye than just numerical figures on the weighing scales. With two real-life case studies and interviews with PE teachers, ex-school nurses, counselors and parents, we bring forth the various views with regards to this issue.
We would like to agree that TAF Club works but it does not mean that losing weight would resolve everything. With that, we hope to breech upon the fact that the exterior of a person does not determine the value of beauty. As such, the rights to convince a TAF Club student to shed the weight does not equal to the right to scorn.
