Should find out more info and details from your friends who made that claim. Its unlikely that the insurance company will not pay if the claim is legitimate. The sum assured in your policy is guaranteed, and they will have to pay it should one of the stated events occur.
I find it hard to believe that an MNC can cheat people lawfully. The insurance contract afterall, is a legal contract bound by law, and when they state that the sum assured is "guaranteed", they are bound under the law to pay it.
