actually my gripe is not in how productivity is measured or valued, its the fact its used to promise better wages which is only true for minority.

gd example is since the crisis 2 yrs ago, economy has recovered more or less which has to imply productivity improved. however wages has barely nudged upwards in comparison.

my opinion is for country in our state of development, the only way to ensure better wages is by legislation.

as for the dude commenting in the report, he should just focus on managing supermarkets. ntuc in this time and age is as useless in labour movement as is CASE to consumer protection

on the wages aspect, doing the same job is unlikely to increase wage much as the extend of productivity increase is capped. company will normally set a ceiling. here is where skill upgrading is important in this new world. with higher skill level and a higher job scope the potential of higher wages.

this is only true in an ideal new world. how many of us has learnt new skills, attended new courses and yet pay remain the same? even where there is pay raise, the amount falls below the inflation rate. dun be brain washed by propaganda so easily la.. our labour laws is fundamentally flawed and disadvantaged to the employees and nothing we do will make live better for ourselves

Singapore is only looking at paper qualifications. It is sad to note......a person with a Cambridge certificate ( without a university degree ) working for say.......the airport......can work for his whole life till retirement. Whats his pay ? ......$3000 or $4000 maximum?  Has he got a chance to be promoted to a more senior position occupied by graduates ? NO ?

This poor man gathers 20, 30 years of experience. A fresh graduate with 1 year of experience can come in and sit on top of men with 20, 30 years in the department. You think this poor experienced man can be productive ?  Angry Surely, he will be counter-productive.

Unless something is done.........the top will go up and up......the bottom 40% will go down and down. angry
