I just wrote in just last month about having segregated recycling bins in the area, instead of having a common one, where is no difference from a rubbish dumping area. here is their wonderful reply... obviously missing the point.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good afternoon. We refer to your email appended below. Thank you for your interest and support in recycling.
2) In April 2001, the National Environment Agency (NEA) launched the National Recycling Programme (NRP) to households in HDB estates and landed properties. The Public Waste Collector companies are required to provide the recycling programme as part of their service to collect refuse from households. Under the NRP, households are given recycling bags or bins by their Public waste collectors for their recyclables such as plastic and glass bottles, paper, drink cans, old clothings, etc. Once every 2 weeks on a predetermined day, the companies will collect the recyclables in the recycling bags or bins put out by the residents at their doorsteps. cycling programme for the condominium residents.
3) To make it more convenient for the public to recycle, the National Environment Agency (NEA) is also currently working with the Public Waste Collectors (PWCs) companies, Town councils, CDCs, and other agencies to provide at least one set of centralised recycling depositories to cater to every five blocks of HDB flats by 2007, for residents to recycle their household waste and to supplement the NRP. Several HDB estates in Bedok, Bukit Panjang, Simei, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Marine Parade, Jurong, Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang, Holland, Commonwealth, West Coast, Dover, Woodlands, West Coast, Punggol, Sengkang, Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bishan and Serangoon areas already have recycling depositories at common areas in the estates.
4) Our functional requirements to the PWCs for the provision of the centralised recycling depositories are such that they shall collect all the 5 types of recyclables (papers, metal, glass, plastics and old clothings) and on their collections/maintenance. Due to space constraints or other concerns, the PWC may have deployed a commingled bin for all the recyclables. In any case, even if the bins are separated, there may still be some form of contamination in some instance, and the collection crew would still have to carry out some degree of post-sorting after collection. However, you might like to note that there are no extra costs incurred in the sorting of the recyclables.
5) There are currently several sets of recycling depositories in your areas in the following locations, and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to recycle through them. - Blk XXX - between Blk XXX and XXX ....etc etc.... (removed for privacy sake)
6) Should the need arises, you could contact myself, or my colleague, Mr XXXXX (Tel: XXXX XXXX) for more info. Thanks.
