New DVD Writer Can't detect CD/DVD

Anyone out there faces the similar problem like I do? Just got a new Samsung DVD Writer, but can't detect CD/DVD. System is running on WinXP and has detected the drive. Try loading the firmware but still not working. Wonder if the software has conflict with Win XP OS. Anyone can help?

i also have the same problem just that mine cannot detect the dvd cos according to my friend it could be the CD ROM, it may nt allow you to do writing only can watch... so maybe you have to check your ROM again

have u tried changing the setting at the back of the dvdwriter to slave?

sometimes it need another name for the drive

Talking about dvd writer....seems like the writer is further ahead than the capability of the media...till now couldn't find a dvd cd having double layer rw format in the market...only available in 4.7gb double layer +/- r only....and it has been 2 yrs since the latest writer available in the market....any comments?
