If your baby is still crying not because of any of the reasons stated by Serene, it could be the constant change in environment that's alarming your daughter.. Try to sooth her by singing her a lullaby.. She'll relax once she hears your voice..

Another reason could be she's colicky.. There are some over the counter anti-colic meds which you can add to your daughter's feed..

Don't worry, I'm sure you're not the only one experiencing this.. My boy occasionally cries for an hour for no reason at all too.. Not hungry, not wet, just asking for attention..

Just be patient and make her comfortable..

change of environment i agreed
as i believe you all are weekend parents if i'm not mistaken
so somehow your kid is attach to the babysitter
what you can do is
next time let the babysitter tag along and see what is the reaction
if she did not cry
thats mean she's attach to the babysitter
so slowly you need to let your child knows who you are
when shes asleep, you might wanna kiss her forehead once in a while
let her feel your spiritual bonding thru her sleep

colicky? i dont thing so as babies will clear of their colicky within 6 mths

It's not usual for 8 month old to cry long and hard for no reason, unless she's unwell.  I shall hazard 2 guesses, given the limited information:

1. Reflux
This is like heartburn, but in babies.  It causes them to projectile vomit, be difficult to feed, etc. My girl had this until 6 months, it was terrible.  They cry cos the acid coming back up from the stomach is painful.

2. Overtiredness
If you usually bring her home late in the evening, there is a possiblity that she cranky and overtired by that time esp if she's been up the whole day.  Check with your babysitter whether she naps well in the day. 8 month old should be taking at least 2 naps - morning nap (from 15 minutes to one hour) and afternoon nap (at least 1 to 2 hours).  If not, by the time she reaches home she may be overtired and unable to sleep, and if you try to keep her up she may just react by crying non-stop cos she is over-stimulated and tired. If this is the case, don try to keep her up to play with you. Babies who are overtired can cry for no reason unless they exhaust themselves and fall asleep or vomit.

Lastly, is your babysitter reliable? Worth checking if there may be events in the day that frightened or distressed her.
