When Punggol was fully developed, Punggol will have 96,000 housing units. There will be 7 waterfront housing districts ( 957 hectare ) with different distinctive characters. At the moment Waterway East and Waterway West are in progress. In future Northshore and Matilda districts will most likely be developed within the next 10 years.

Old Punggol Road will be closed to traffic and converted into a 1.5 km heritage trail meant for recreational facilities.

Lets take a look at the new Punggol Road with a brand new bus stop verses a small section of the old Punggol Road with an old bus stop. ( this section of old Punggol Road is purposely left untouch ).

In the good old 1960's when you jogged along old Punggol Road, in the air, there was an unmistakeable smell that filled the familiar surrounding as you moved along towards Punggol Point.

At that time, although hugh trees lined the road, behind, rows and rows of attap huts, with poultry, pigs and fish farms thrived in the kampongs. Dogs barking at a distance.....

In the evenings, familar crickets, squirrels, bats, birds of different species welcome you as the moon appears..

Today as you walk along the waterway way, there are only man-make signs telling you of the existence of certain species of birds, insects etc etc but nothing can be seen.

Here are the signs....

The development of Punggol Point, horse riding facilities, food and beverages corridor, fountains, ponds etc.....also affects vegetation.

The stretch of old Punggol Road to be reserved for heritage trails at least helps to keep part of old Punggol alive.......

For pictures of the development of Punggol Point and related facilities, goto :
