MOH extends subsidy scheme to include disabled persons

Effective November 1, disabilities can get subsidized medical care in participating clinics near their home at polyclinic rates.

This is because the Ministry of Health (MOH) is including this group in the Primary Care Partnership Scheme (PCPS).

To apply, disabilities need to approach any community club or Community Development Council for registration.

Singapore moves to tap " silver hair " market. ( This shows how important is our elders to Singapore's economy ) waving

It is known as the " silver hair industry " --one that meets the needs of the world's ageing population--and Singapoe is making an ambitious play for a slice of this market.

A hugh exhibition promoting " SILVER " products and services will be staged here next year along with an industry conference featuring speakers ranging from a Nobel laureate to minister mentor. This exhibition is being organised by the Silver Industry Committee, set up by the Government last November to seek out opportunities, locally and worldwide. Tentative date of exhibition:- middle January 2008.

Already, one of the early players are manufacturing " Button hole helpers and eye drop devices " for elders both in Singapore and are exporting to US, India and soon to Australia. Companies are working with ITE's in designing new products to assist elders in their everyday living.

Information for elderly who may have problems looking after themselves.

The number of elderly in Singapore who need financial assistance and support is increasing. Many need help in their daily activities and yet have no relatives or friends to turn to.

Catering to elderly persons who are unable to provide for themselves, many of whom live alone or with another frail elderly person, the HOME HELP SERVICE provides care for the elderly in their home setting.

Services include providing meals, assistance with personal hygiene, housekeeping and transport to medical appointments.

The following organisations can render assistance.  thumbs up

(1) Bethany Home Help Service by methodist welfare services.
(2) Dorcas Home Care Service by presbyterian community services.
(3) Moral Home Service by Society or moral charities.
(4) Sunlove Home Help Service by Sunlove Abode.
(5) Swami Home Help Service by Sunshine Welfare Action Mission
(6) Touch Home Care by Touch Community Services.

The elderly are refered to the above by hospitals, family service centres, ministry of community development, youth and sports, and community developement councils.
