Very bizarre case highlighted in The New Paper today pg 10. An SPH administrator was given writ of summon by Nanyang law firm. The interesting part, he was supposed to be a a taxi driver involved in an incident with another taxi driver. The ironic part is, he does not own a car and does not even have a taxi vocational license and never been a taxi driver.

How can this terrible event happen?? As explained in the paper, there's a mix up by the law firm. This is terrible because once you are sued, the record is permanent and even if the suit is withdrawn, the record still stands. The implication is that if the accused apply for credit card or bank loan in the future, his application will be rejected because of the suit.

In another incident, this scenario happens to a friend of mine 5 years back. He became a guarantor for his wife uncle that intended to do house renovation thus applying for bank loan. Months later the uncle refused to pay, declared bankrupt and thus left my poor friend being given the writ of summon and he is paying in installment since then, very pitiful as he has three children. Recently, his application for getting house renovation loan was rejected even though he had paid the full amount.

Perhaps the humane thing for Nanyang law firm is to aaply to court to strike off his name from the suit, since its their mistake, they should be made to pay the legal fees to struck of the name of the wrongfully accused person. God bless.
